ABOUT ME

Arthur  A. Aguirre, Ph.D

I was born and raised in El Paso and love this city with my whole heart. Growing up and living on the border has influenced my identity as a coach and consultant in more ways than I can share in a short website bio. Suffice it to say, I value the various cultures and identities that make this place possible. I attended the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and earned my BA in communication with a major in public relations/organizational communication. I worked in public relations for about a year and then applied and was accepted into the master’s program in the Communication Department at UTEP. It’s there where my passion for communication and improving the way we understand one another began to grow. I knew from my first week in graduate school that I wanted to delve deep into the discipline. My parents taught me that if I was passionate about something, to follow it through all the way, so after completing my MA, I left to Albuquerque, NM to continue my work in the doctoral program at the University of New Mexico. I earned my PhD with a focus on intercultural communication and began work as a consultant and communication specialist. I have worked with universities, city departments, non-profits, small businesses and even a veterinarian.

In 2018, I started in my current position as an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Leadership and Community Engagement Program at UTEP. Working in this program has driven me to combine by practical and academic background in communication with my skillset and knowledge in leadership studies. Over the last few years, I have focused my attention developing communication and leadership workshops and working with current and emerging leaders to help with leadership development, leadership communication, along with several other intra- and interpersonal communication competencies.

My years of consulting and teaching pushed me to expand my work into coaching. After working with emerging leaders as a leadership mentor, I applied to, was accepted into, and earned my leadership coaching certification through the CoachRICE Leadership Coaching Program in the Doerr Institute for New Leaders at Rice University. It was one of the best decisions I made, and I am grateful for the knowledge and skills I learned in the program.

That being said, I love what I do, and I am always excited to help those who want to better understand the people and world around them. Whether you and/or your organization are looking to improve your communication, or if you are looking for a coach to facilitate your growth as an individual, I am eager to be a part of your journey to improvement and understanding.
